We had the admeasurer on board Merlin this morning. The first step towards the transit is done! We escaped the “Flats” our anchorage which is not properly named as it is a really rolly spot (even in a cat).
We are away for the week end from the transit activity: we are anchored in a quiet, peaceful river (9deg 16.846N 79deg 57.907W). We are in the Rio Chagres, a river dammed in 1910 to create the Gatum Lake (between the 2 series of locks of the canal). That river supplies the fresh water for the locks. It is surrounded by dense and high rainforest. It is really calm and flat.
There are lots of birds cries and wild life noises. From time to time, there is a great roar. We haven’t found which animal is was (big cat, crocodile, monkey?). We are now getting ready to go and explore the river some more.
Who are really the monkeys?
